St. Bernard Chapel

A beige and white church with a tall steeple, cross on top, large front windows, and a porch with pillars, set against a clear blue sky and surrounded by green shrubs.

St. Bernard Chapel was built and consecrated in 2005, under the patronage of the Doctor of the Church and Cistercian Abbot St. Bernard of Clairvaux, whose statue and first-class relic reside at the chapel.  St. Bernard serves the vacationers and staff of Snowshoe Mountain Resort.  At 4800 feet, the Chapel holds the distinction, arguably, of the highest church in elevation in the USA east of the Rocky Mountains.
